Skeeter was a horrid barker and he would stir up the others.
I rolled up newspapers and secured them with rubber bands. I then left then all over the house where I could grab them in seconds. Whenever he barked I would smack the newspaper down as hard as I could on the coffee table, kitchen counter, my hand or the wall - what ever hard surface was close enough. It makes a wonderfully loud noise. I would also sternly say "Quiet" right after that. I kid you not when I say I only had to do it once or twice before he stopped barking. A couple more times after that he stopped when I grabbed the newspapers. Now he only barks at times when any other dog would bark (like an unfamiliar noise) but he stops when I say "quiet." You don't want them to stop barking all together. They need to bark to let you know if something is wrong. From time to time I have to take a newspaper outside with us and he keeps one eye on whats going on in the yard and one eye on me wondering if I'm going to make that awful noise. But he doesn't bark!
Good Luck.
I agree you would like for them to bark at certain times, so that would be a negative with the bird house device, but I believe they have an on and off button. It would mean a little more work to operate it that way. But, it would be worth the out come. If my Addison continue the way she is going with her barking; I might have to look into something for her. The newspaper sounds like a good options to try first.
