My chihuahua, Bitsy, had luxating patella surgery on both knees at the same time last November. She is only 3 lbs, so I got a used bassinette with wheels and would roll her around the house with me. She could kind of move around in the bassinette but she couldn't run or anything. We were told that she couldn't walk at all for 8 weeks!! It was tough. I used to bring her in a bag to walk with the other dogs or I would put her in the stroller just to get her some air. Bitsy is pretty much a lap dog anyway so she was happy as a clam to have all of Mama's attention. The incisions heal so quickly. I think it is harder on us that it is on them. I don't like seeing my babies in pain. The worst part for them is the Elizabethan collar that they have to wear so that they don't lick their wounds. They have soft collars now that look like whip lash collars. I ended up making one for Bitsy since she is so small. She had a "Hello Kitty" one! Here is a photo of her in her collar and a photo of her incision 4 days after surgery and a photo of the wonderful shave they gave her!! Just so you know what to expect. Good Luck, everything will be fine!!
