I agree. 8 weeks is very young. It's recommended to start a rigid food and water schedule at 12 weeks. CouversMom is correct. Your puppy won't understand why he's in trouble. If you catch your puppy in the act yell, "No," and then immediately take him to his potty spot. CouversMom is also correct in not giving your puppy so much freedom. A puppy won't potty where it sleeps. Crate your puppy or gate off a very small area so all that would fit is his bed. A puppy that young cannot hold for very long. This includes during the night. Once he reaches 12 weeks, you can withhold his food and water and give it only three times a day. Then you will know when he has to go. You may want to invest in "How to Housebreak Your Dog in 7 Days." It will take longer than 7 days, but it is how I've housebroken my Sydney. She's 4 months old and doing wonderful using the pads.
