If Max was that tiny doesn't it make you wonder if there was something "wrong" with him when he passed during his surgery? I would be very worried that any puppies that Misty would have might also have what took Max's life. His adult weight alone makes me think that he might have had some type of underlying issues with his health possibly hereditary that you are not aware that Misty could be a carrier of and passed on to Max.
