I free feed all of mine, puppies and adults. Somedays they eat every crumb and want more, other days they don't even finish it.

I agree that free feeding is good for a very young puppy, but one that's 12 weeks should be kept on a strict food and water schedule to help the potty training process. And I agree, three times a day.
