Well I guess NOW I do have a "bee in my bonnet"

Maybe you need an explaination of how a forum works. If you have a question all you need to do is post a new thread and ASK whatever it is on your mind and you will get an answer if someone knows. I was curious as to what your question was so I did a search to see if I could figure it out and I think this is what you are looking for an answer to. The reason that you have not been answered is that you posted to SOMEONE ELSES question that was answered. But I will try to answer it for you here. But for future reference, if you have a question that you would like answered and are not finding your answer all you need to do is hit the "Start a new thread" button and post your question. So here is the question that I found buried in another thread about your Tobias:

I currently have him scheduled for surgery this Oct. 20th. and am wanting any additional information. I have read up on this in Wicki. and it doesn't sound good.
One thing I am upset about is the testicles should have been noticed by the time he was 3-4 months old. Why didn't the vet see this or look for it. I didn't know and now am upset. I don't see him anymore for other reasons.
I am concerned on the teeth because the longer they stay in, the bigger the permanent grow and won't it be harder on him to have them pulled?
Everywhere I go/read, in spite of what others have said, neutering is inevitable. There's also the possibility that he is sterile because of the one undescended testicle.
Anyone? Your expertise of experiences similar to ours? Help please. Soon? |
Cryptorchid is when the testicles are not descended into the scrotum of the male. If Tobias is now 1 yr old and they have not descended at this point there is a chance that he might need a more invasive surgery during a neuter. My Bogey has 1 testicle that did not descend but the vet was able to feel it prior to surgery and he did not need to do any additional exploration to remove it during his neuter. Some dogs might need to have a much larger incision to locate and remove the testicle and YES this could bring complications and a longer recovery period. As for your former vet not noticing this at 3 or 4 months *I* was told at some dogs take longer for them to drop than others. Truth be told as you stated he is no longer your vet so IMO you cannot live by "why" he didn't notice or say something at 3 month of age. What does your current vet recommend regarding the cryptorchid, is he able to palpate and locate it? Is it one or both? Bogey one had one and it was easily palpated so my vet was not worried and did not need to even make a larger incision to remove his right testicle.
As for retained teeth, it is very important that any retained teeth be removed for proper oral hygiene. Many small dog such a Yorkie are prone to issues with their teeth. Brushing is not sufficient to remove food from between teeth that have been retained. There are many people on the board that have had teeth removed during a spay/neuter. The puppy teeth have very shallow roots and many time it is just included in the cost of the spay/neuter. I have never personally read or heard from any members on YT having an issue with retained teeth being removed during a neuter. From my personal experience Doodlebug was 5 months and he did not need any removed. Pebbles has 3 removed and she was also around the same age and has no adverse issues afterward. Bogey was over a year and had both issues that you are inquiring about and did not have any problem during or after surgery. The vet removed 1 puppy tooth during his neuter and he did not have any problems eating etc after surgery and his oral hygiene (breath) was so much better without his little extra fange (canine) Pretty standard for these little guys as retained teeth is very common and need to be addressed.
If you need additional information, I would like to once again suggest that you start a separate thread in the General Forum. I am sure that other members will also be able to give you their experience as well as in site into your questions. Good luck with Tobias and his neuter on the 20th.
BTW~welcome to YT
