I was interested in your thread because I am moving again soon, but I also had the same problem that you have. My baby, Cash, used to have to stay at home all alone for most of the day when I go to class. I had always wanted to have a female yorkie, so I got Cash a friend.
June is 8 months old now and she just loves Cash. They still hate it when I leave and freak out when I get home, but at least they aren't alone.

Have you thought about doggie daycare or a dog walker? Another option would be to give the doggie nice activity toys to play with while you are gone. That would alleviate any boredom at least.
