Dogs of all sizes can sense when you don't trust them. I actually trust big dogs more than small dogs to be friendly. The only difference with them is that a big dog can obviously cause more damage so yeah, of course, you have to be aware. I've met FAR more friendly big dogs than I have small dogs. Most of my experiences with dogs not liking me, growling at me, nipping me, trying to bite me have come from little dogs, never once a bigger dog. I grew up with a Golden Retriever and a German Shepherd. My aunt owned a Rottweiler with me growing up, as well as a Pit Bull. She knows how to control them and has the personality to own such powerful breeds and they were always the sweetest dogs ever. However, my grandma's Llahpso Apso growing up... that dog would bite anybody!

But can I just say... a little boy walking a Pit Bull by himself is ridiculous!!! That's very wrong and irresponsible of the parents to allow that to happen. I don't care what kind of dog, I don't even think you should allow a 9 year old to watch a Golden Retriever. If anything were to happen, I'm sure they're alot stronger than the little boy.
