I think if you just correct him and say "no bite" or some command they will eventually stop. The loud yelp worked a little bit too. If he bites say "ouch" really loud like he hurt you and that will teach him that he's playing too rough. Capone did this for a while and I was so happy when he stopped. I thought it was a phase puppies went through when they are biting and chewing everything including fingers and feet.

I think an alternative to the alpha roll is to cradle them in your lap like a baby and say relax or calm and just hold them until they are relaxed and feel comfortable and trust you. We did this in obedience class and it's different and more calming than the alpha roll. It's teaching them to trust you rather than fear you.
