It is easy to monitor her appetite when I know I have given her a 1/4 cup of food around the same time each day. If she is eating regularly, I have no need to worry about hypoglycemia, etc. (Of course, it is much easier to potty train when you have definite meal times.)
Also, I have three cats in my home that literally dwarf my new puppy; I have purchased a collapsible (net & canvas) 'house' for her to stay in at night & when I am away. There is a zippered door that I can close or leave open for her to come & go to eat, sleep, or potty on a small pad throughout the day. (I cut the smallest puppy pads in half.) I can also zip up or unzip the ceiling so that the cat's won't jump inside when I can't supervise.

I have to do the same thing for Luna! She has a little bell on her collar as well because without it I could never keep up with her and I was afraid she would get hurt.
