In addition to some of the reasons stated against using a registry like APRI which was started by puppymills, another reason not to use it would be their open dishonesty in encouraging people who have bought an AKC dog with limited registration to register with them for free so they can breed. I find this to be a very unscrupulous policy! Some of those limited registrations are done because of health and genetic problems that SHOULD NOT be perpetuated to future generations. Here a registry promotes going against a legal binding contract from a reputable AKC breeder and breeding the dog regardless. That tells me the organization has no ethics or moral code.

APRI is basically a registry started and continued to undermine the AKC, imo. They did not want to comply with DNA requirements for frequently used sires and humane kennel operations, so they started the registry and now they go so far as to encourage those with limited AKC registration to dual enroll with them so they can go ahead and breed their dogs even though some bought their dogs for less without breeding rights, or may even have dogs that have been found to have genetic reasons for NOT breeding.

My suggestion will always be to choose the safest route and stick with AKC!
