I would advise getting most of your questions answered before visiting the breeder. (phone, internet, referals etc.)

It is sooooooooo hard to walk away from an available puppy once you hold it.

When you go to see the puppy your questions should be about that particular puppy plus you get a chance to see living conditions etc.

If you are just in the researching stage (not ready or able to buy) then that's a different story. Just be sure to put on your cuteness resistant armor, it's VERY hard to walk away without a puppy!
