some do not tolerate the patch especially if they are small. dogs under 7lbs aren't suppose to have a patch because its not accurate enough if you only use half of a 12.5mcg. some will hold their urine, some look overly "drunk" and out of it, and some cats just freak out completely. its not common but it does happen. i'd say one out of every 100 would have some sort of reaction to it (mostly minor things, never saw anything terribly bad happen that couldn't be fixed by taking the patch off).
