I have petplan also.. I did alot of research on insurances and they seemed to offer the highest max coverage plus they do congenital and breed specific diseases and they cover the same illness over a long period of time. It doesnt cover routine care, but most dont that I saw and the ones that I did didnt cover breed specific illness which concerned me more. You have to choose what is right for you. With insurance I feel like its a must, for peace of mind. Its the same as human insurance, we all have it, but we dont want to ever use it! Its the same with the dogs, god forbid you should have something go wrong and use it but the day something does happen you dont want to be stuck with a bill of thousands of dollars, and yes they are expensive. My friend had a dog (not a yorkie) and got really sick so she would take him to the vet and that along was a few hundred for each time (which insurance will cover) and then found out that the dog needed surgery (which was something like $4000) and he didnt have the money to have the surgery. so sad
