I would definitely encourage taking him for long walks or runs. Irregardless of what all of the ads say, they need exercise and a bored doggie does get into mischief. You also might try putting pineapple on the food to see if that does the job that the deter didn't. I also suggest giving your puppy good quality vitamins on a daily basis.
