I have partial information. The tech I spoke with this morning asked one of the vets about this and he said that it all depends on what kind of test the vet is doing.
If they are doing an on the spot test (Elisa), then they are looking for antibodies. So...if a dog had giardia, that test would not be the one to use if it were recent since the dog would understandably have antibodies.
If your vet is doing the test right there and giving you immediate results....that may be the problem. He said they should not do the Elisa for about a year after treatment!
What the tech forgot to ask the vet is whether a dog who is a carrier would also test positive...I am thinking they would; but will let you know when they call me back later on. I was there a couple of hours ago, but it was too busy to find out from the vet. |
