I think so.. it gives him to much freedom... that is not a good thing when you are training... Try to get a baby gate or an xpen to gate him off somewhere a little smaller.. Leave him some toys,,bed food and water.. chew toys..
Maybe you can put a baby gate and on the door of the bathroom so he is in there, thats plenty big for him. Just make sure you take up the rugs.. I would think a xpen would be easier...
