I had Bra'Tac's done at almost 6 months, and about 5lbs. He went through it fine. My vet also did pre-blood work to make sure there were no outstanding issues. Also, if your vet will do laser surgery instead of scalpel, I would suggest it wholeheartedly. Not only do they not have all the inflammation that is associated with a scalpel procedure, but they also heal quicker and there seems to be less pain afterwards. It cost me a little extra, however it was well worth it. Bra'Tac never even seemed to lick at it, and was up and about, without much pain meds, quickly. As for anesthesia, the doctor was right there monitoring him, and said he did fine. I trust the vet that I have now, so that is a big load off my mind when my pups have to have any procedure.
