Also, I called a couple of vets and they are saying that they give the gas plus the shot to keep them under and that they do pre-blood work tests plus they send him home with pills and meds....now we are more hollistic in our medical approach and this seems like alot of stuff for such a tiny dog. Is this the normal procedure? Im just not sure what to expect and Im really sacred to do this. Plus some places I called want to keep him overnight? Is that normal too? I think he will be really scared to do that.
Please help, Im a nervous mommy!

My vet neutered Doodlebug when he was 5 months and 5 lbs and he was perfectly fine.

When you speak of SURGERY there is nothing holistic about it~you need pain meds and they need to be put to sleep. A neuter for a male is much less risky and basically a very quick procedure. Some vets like to keep them overnight to monitor and other will let them go home. Mine stayed and when I picked them up in the morning they were fine!

You have to consider that he will be sleepy and on pain meds after surgery and will really not care he is in a different environment. Personally unless you are very comfortable bringing him home the very best place would be at the vet for observation after his neuter. To help put your mind at ease even more, the incision is VERY tiny and there are only a few stitches. When I went to pick my boys up (I had Bogey done at the same time) they were soooo happy to see me. Good luck.
