8 month old yorkie just went into heat I need some advice. I have a male and female yorkie who will be 8 months old the first part of October. My vet told me that yorkies develop very slowly and I wouldn't have to think about spaying or neutering them until they were between 8 and 9 months old. Well, I just noticed that Bella is a bit swollen and seems to be bleeding (this is her first heat). This has been going on for about 3 days now. My male yorkie, Rusty, doesn't seem to be showing any interest in her for which I am glad.
My problem is that we are in the process of moving out of state and will be leaving on October 26th. We are moving from California to Florida and I don't want to get them fixed now and then have to travel with them when they are recuperating. It is too difficult for me to separate them as they are half brother and half sister. They had the same father but different mothers. It is not my intention to breed them and was wondering if I can make the trip and then have them fixed after we settle in. I just don't want her to become pregnant as I have heard a lot of horror stories about yorkie pregnancies. How often do they come into heat and how long does it last?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! |
