Default Sparky seems to not be fond of his kibble

Hi all,

Last couple weeks, I've noticed I'm having a hard time keeping my little Yorkie Sparky's attention on eating. There are a couple of potential contributing factors, so I will lay everything out and would love suggestions/advice, etc.

My 2 yr. old lhasapoo Chewy was diagnosed with a liver shunt the second week of September. We have scheduled surgery for him for the first week of November and until then, he is on a strict regimen of supplements, meds, and RC LS Hepatic special food. I also mix in a bit of the Hills LD wet to this to make it a bit more enticing and yummy. Chewy gobbles it up and loves it.

Ever since this new food entered the house, Sparky seems to only want this food. I don't know if this is because his brother gets it, so he wants it, or what. But Sparky always runs over to Chewy's bowl for his food, and then I have to say "Sparky, go eat your breakfast" and then he scampers back over to his little bowl. But he's like eating SUPER slow...he used to gobble it up, and lately, he's taking SO long (I have to stand there and watch so Chewy doesn't come over when he's done and try to eat the high protein food which is very bad for his liver).

I don't know if Sparky is eating slow because he wants the other food, or if he's not crazy about his food, or if he's just so excited to be off the big boy bed with Mommy, Daddy and Chewy, and wants to run and run and run and play, that he can't be bothered with eating. If I take my eye off him for one second, he runs for the living room to find his Wubba and brings it to me to throw and fetch. Then I have to repeat "Sparky - eat your breakfast" then he scampers back over and slowly picks again.

He gobbles treats (watermelon pieces) and he loves when I give him a mid-day snack of some of Chewy's special kibble...

Do Yorkie's often change their minds about foods? He's about 5 1/2 months now, he was born on April 14th. Or could it be his teeth bothering him?

It's not a really big issue, cause he's eating and finishing his bowl as long as I stand by him and keep him focused on eating...I just wonder if he's trying to tell me something....anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!
Tania - Chewy and Sparky's Mommy
