How very horrible for you. I am sorry for your loss. Hard to beleive a business like that, after making such a horrible mistake would not want to quickly try to make ammends! For them not to even tell you, until after they had gotten you to pay the bill is atrocious! That pretty much foretold their cold heart!
When you try to counteract their claim that your sweet pup somehow depreciated, check out the cost to have a professional come in and house train your dog, train her in anything you had done, to include behavious training which we do naturally as we love our dogs. Count up all of the vet bills that went in to ensuring her good health. Also include all of the food, toys, bedding, grooming, basically everything you ever spent on your dear pet. All of that went in to making her the pet she was the day the boarding person allowed her to be mauled to death. I also hope your lawyer has a figure in mind for the horror you went through, the years of grief you will feel for the loss of your companion.
I usually do not like suing people for accidents....but when they are negligent and then so cruel as to try ot get out of their responsibility in it, then I think you have no choice but to "sock it to them." I would hope that the award would be enough to shut them down. People do not belong in that business if they do not care enough about pets to keep them safe and stand up and face the consequences if they screw up that trust. |
