I think it's a combination of empty-nest syndrome for some people, and for others, it seems to have been encouraged by the celebrity-small-dog trend.
For me, I'm not quite ready to have kids yet. I've wanted a Yorkie ever since I was a kid, and now I'm finally ready to take care of a puppy (good practice for a baby when the time comes). He's brought so much love and warmth into our home. I can be having the worst day and just look at him and my spirits will be completely lifted.
