You can apply regular table salt to your carpets at night. This will dehydrate fleas. You then vacuum in the morning, and empty the vacuum afterwards in the trash outside. The flea egg hatches varies -- anywhere from two days to a few weeks, depending on environmental conditions. So treat your carpet a few times to prevent reinfestation.
