You are not being overly protective, you are being appropriately concerned for the safety of your beloved pet. They may have lucked out in their years of pet ownership, but you will never forgive yourself or them if something happens to your little one. It is just not right to let him roam.

Keep him home, and soon enough he will have the company of your new pup.
