Default Sophie is 5 months old today and she has decided she's a big girl!

So, yesterday we were pretty busy and we weren't able to have Sophie out with us because we were gone most of the day off and on. So she stayed in her xpen more than normal. Well, when we got home, she had apparantley climbed out of it and had the run of the bedroom, great room, & kitchen. No huge deal as she apparantely didn't get into anything. I assumed it was just a fluke since we weren't able to be home with her much at one time yesterday, so I thought it was a smidgen of separation issues since she's fine in her pen during the day while we were at work. I didn't think it would happen again.

Well, today I came home from work and let her out as usual. She was out for about 1 1/2 hours and when DH got home we went to eat so we put her back in her pen and were gone for about 1 hour. So I come home and I hear her barking when I get in the house. I look and she has gotten out of her xpen again and I didn't see where she was. I look up and see her peeking through the balcony from upstairs!!!! She had gotten out and just moseyed on up there!! I wasn't mad, but totally in shock. The xpen is 3 feet high and her crate is against a wall, so she literally climbed up it and jumped out!

So, apparantley, today, on her 5 month b-day, she has decided she's a big girl and doesn't need to stay in that old xpen anymore because she won't get into ANY trouble!

I guess we are going to start leaving her out and letting her be in the great room & kitchen, even when we're gone. I'd rather have her safe in the two rooms than climbing and jumping out of the xpen. The only thing I'm worried about is if she goes upstairs she might jump through the rungs on the balcony, but I think she's got a sense of height now...what would you guys do about that part...let her go upstairs or block it off with a gate?

Anyway,We've got baby gates up in front of the bedroom door (where the cats can escape) and the laundry room (where the cats go potty). So she'll have two whole rooms to herself. She's never tried to get over the baby gates b/c she sees those as a boundary. She won't even go in the bedroom if we're home because she's not allowed to unless we go, too.

They sure can drive you crazy sometimes! Thanks for letting me share!
