I feel a little safer knowing Joey is chipped, you can always "prove" that the dog is yours, should someone decide to dognap and they live in the same complex. Lol, I'm not sure Joey would act like he knows me, if they're giving him better food.

Vets should ask for some type of licensing/ownership papers when people bring in new animals, and I think it would be great if they automatically scanned all new dogs. Also, don't forget many dogs are simply lost, and if they wind up in the pound they will get scanned. Millions of dogs have been returned to their owners because of microchips, so it does give me a small sense of security, and if you travel a great deal, it would really seem important. I also register his chip number with the AKC, and they have a 24-hour lifetime lost and found service and will notify all local vets and pounds, in whatever cities you've been in. At a time when you probably can't think straight, it helps to have someone on your side.
