Hopefully it was not a hernia. Kind of a big risk to take without every having gotten that ruled out though, don't you think? (Not all hernias are visible.) They can be very serious issues...definately not something to play around with. Keep in mind though...knowing that her parents never had them doesn't really amount to much--you have to have some knowledge of the other dogs in the lines as well. And, not all hernias are hereditary, but they still pose the same threat.

Just out of curiosity, given that she is not a purebred Yorkie, what, if any, additional tests did you have to have performed on her before breeding?
I know what is routine for Yorkies, but not for Schnauzers....
