Corn Starch works well for me. I just take a pinch and rub in onto the tangle and then slowly work the rat out with a metal comb. Sometimes I have to add a little more but it always works well for me. Like kalina82 said, make sure you are combing all the way to the skin, tangles are very good at hiding.
