I do think it has to be baby steps. We started off only in the crate then we graduated to the X pen and he would bark when we did this. Next is the house but I will wait before we try this again. Maybe try it while running an errand for a half-hour. Gradually increasing your time. Getting a good nights sleep is always nice.
