Yes, that is what I would do. I would continue with the chicken and rice for a couple of days to make sure any tummy subset is past. Then gradually mix the dog food into the chicken & rice mixture. Do not be surprised if he picks out the chicken and rice. Just keep mixing in more dog food than c&R mixture. Eventually getting to all dog food. That should work.
I know EVO Small bites is a quality food, but it is 43% protein, which is pretty high. I wonder if that was just too much for your new guy. I might look around and select a different high quality food with just a little less protein content. I usually try to stay in the 30's% -- for instance, Canidae Grain Free All Life Stage is 34% protein. Just an opinion and you will find lots of different philosophies on dog food!
