So, they ensure that I'm safe and going to be there for awhile (I know, TMI ), then they run up their stairs to the bed and sprawl out until they hear the toilet flush. Then they perk up, run to the bottom of the bed and wait to see what I do next before they run down the stairs to follow me.

There are times I would swear they're perpetual motion engines ... and then they collapse and snooze like rocks
Thanks for the clarification. Our experiences are different. When I read stairs, I think two story house stairs and not doggy stairs that lead to a bed. Sometimes our different backgrounds and experiences make it hard for all of us to interpret everybody's text accurately. I am glad your dog enjoys running up and down the stairs, and my dogs enjoy running up and down the stairs too. I made a game with Josh where we compete to see which one of us can run upstairs to my room the fastest. Josh loves that game. I just think my dogs are very smart to wait at the top of the stairs when mommy repeatedly goes up and down the stairs lugging the laundry to the laundry room and back to my room.
