Signs of Tape Worms are pieces of what looks like dried pieces of rice, stuck in the hair around their bottom and in their bedding. This is most noticible first thing in the morning when they wake up. A stool sample will not necessarily test positive for tape worm. Many times you go by what is seen in the hair and bedding. So...........a stool sample test at your vet's may not be correct. Look for the signs and be sure and tell the vet what, if anything, you see. Quite likely you will also see the worms in their poop. Regular worming medication will not treat tape worm, that is a separate medication. If my vet were to scoff at a worm problem, I would be out the door and looking for a new vet immediately. If a vet will scoff at worms, what else will they deem "unimportant". Google tape worm, there is good info and pictures on the net. You should get this treated and not wait until the next vaccine visit, unless that is coming up in a week or so.
