congrats on you new baby, unless you are planing on showing your dog, I feel that meeting the AKC standards is unecessary..my little Prada is 6.5 pounds and has the clasic black and tan coloring, but has a very dense cottony coat, and I LOVE her so much, I know she is not a show dog neither I show dogs, so she gives me all her love and I give her mine.. so my advise to you is LOVE your girl and enjoy all her love..
