I think it was a misdiagnosis. So, I would not let them talk you into any surgery, until he is an adult. But I would still consult your vet on teh subject of excessive tearing. It could be something they could treat relatively simply.

You might try some Missing Link supplement. Something in it helps with excessive tearing for some dogs. But it takes several months of use. Angel Eyes is another that is supposed to help by giving them a very low dose of antibiotic long term.
good point. Morgan has http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...richiasis.html and was just diagnosed around march when she was just about 3 years old. she's probably had it her whole life but the regular vet she used to go to never caught it. i had to take her to a eye specialist to get a diagnosis. nothing except surgery is going to fix the problem but because of her condition and where the hairs actually are its not something we are going to pursue. so now i just try to keep her face as dry as possible. i do give her angel eyes off and on because the tears stains do create infections under her eyes. since there is a small antibiotic in the angel eyes it helps to clear up the problem. there are also other meds out there to help.

so a trip to the vet will help you uncover what the problem may be.
