I think everyone has given you excellent advise..and the key is the vet you use and if he/she is attuned to small dogs. One of my little girls was just a tad under 3#'s but my vet was fabulous and allowed me in the room during her surgery. I was there, the vet was there and her assistant was there monitoring her vitals so they could bring her out fast if need be. Bella passed with flying colors.
