So, I made the choice to go forward and educate myself on what to expect. I’ve already decided that no matter how many puppies she has I’m keeping them all. I don’t know if it’s realistic but, there is no way I will be able to part with them after 12 weeks of raising them.

I do work, my job is really flexible. I do not know a single person who breeds dogs nor do I know a vet or vet tech personally, but the little ones whole family (daddy and grandma, etc) are all willing to help incase we do end up needing to bottle feed.

So, is having the vets feel for the puppies safe??? If it is I’ll change my calendar and Fiona will go in for that and if they do not feel a puppy just to be sure I’ll do the ultrasound then the x ray? If they feel a puppy I’ll skip the ultrasound and just do the x ray.

Thank you so much for the advice and the website!!!
Aww, I understand......I don't think I could abort a pregnancy either. As long as you are responsible in keeping &caring for and/or finding the pups good homes, your decision is fine. It sounds like you have a great support group in your family.
Vet palpitation IMO is safe; others may disagree but it boils down to personal opinions/preference. I've had two litters so far; the first one I had a pretty good idea myself that my female was PG by the time I took her in for palpitation, but wanted the confirmation for my peace of mind. Even with the litter of one we just had, I suspected that she was PG, but with only one pup, the obvious belly change was not quite there for me to be sure. Definitely skip the ultrasound if pups are felt........if you see changes in her behavior, eating habits, and/or her belly/nipples.......those would be probable signs of a pregnancy and you could even skip palpitation. But of course to be absolutely certain, a trip to the vet is in order. We're here for any questions and concerns along the way!
Here's another good website to check out. Scroll down to the bottom for more helpful links on the site from breeding through weaning and everything in between.
