Is it true that some are in pain the rest of their lives? I was only a teenager and lived in a dorm at college when I got my cat and had no second thoughts about declawing since I didn't want Baxter to ruin anything that wasn't mine. No one ever told me the pros and cons. I know that he's not in pain now since he doesn't exhibit anything that would suggest pain in the past 10 years. Whew! Also, he still can catch and kill all sorts of presents for me, which surprises me as he doesn't have his front claws. Talent! I do worry that he doesn't have his natural defenses, though...always have.
