I have always used the Swim Ear (alcohol) after baths/swims on all my girls and other dogs that i have had. We have never had an ear infection. I just squeeze in each ear after bath or swim and rub all the excess off with a towel. I would NOT recommend putting this in if you suspect an ear infection so make sure the ears are clear before you do this or it will really burn.
I use the ear cleaner (non alcohol) about once a month if needed but usually they don't need that. When my Swim Ear bottle is empty, i just open and refill with the regular rubbing alcohol. I just use the bottle so that i know what's in there. I have done this on all the dogs i have owned for the past 25 years and never had an ear infection in any of them...all types of breeds.
There are probably other ways to keep them clear and clean but this has worked for mine.
