I call it he knows when it is time to go to work.
he pulls he head in the game and gets at it.
Which is not a bad thing.
Mine can pull amazing focus when it is work time and she knows there is a pay cheque in the way.
What needs to happen is the random stuff so he does not know when the pay is coming.
Not sure you said how old he is or not.
I am also wondering if a little focus work may help. A little protocol for relaxation maybe or some control unleash stuff,
