What if you vidoe tape or sound tape what is going one.
Could there be a noise or someone buggin him.
Like walking by and on purpose knoting at your door.
Maybe it is not him but another dog.
We had a simlar issuse with one of my dogs and I went the beep coller way no zap no spray.
What I should have done was put them to work on kongs and other things to keep them happy and busy...rookie mistake.
Also found out later it was not my dog it was upstairs. I was home and ther was barking...yeah not mine.
Why I suggested tape it first and find out for sure it is your dog.
