Our family always had dachshunds too. That is why I chose her. She has definately lived longer than any others in the family. I think the longest living one next to her made it to 14 years old. Kate just turned 17 this month.
I keep thinking "this is it" with Kate. But, then she pulls through. She still has her moments when you know she is happy. When my older sons visit, she even wags that poor crooked tail of hers. She cannot see much, is very hard of hearing, and has bad arthritis. But she keeps on ticking and still loves a belly rub.
