I completely understand the questioning. The problem is not that we can't afford emergencies if need be, my mother has a long time friend that is a vet and in the past i have been able to pay on a bill. i just can't afford a huge lump sum like that right now and i feel that right now is the best time for me to have a pet as i have so much free time and nothing to dedicate it to. my step children are 2 and 5. the 2 year old is surprisingly gentle, she loves my parents dogs (i don't know there breed but they are pretty small, maybe 8 each)

and by the way, i'm not just looking for a yorkie, i was generally wanting input so i do appreciate everything you guys are saying. if you know of any other small breed of dog that you think would fit my lifestyle and price range better, please feel free to give me your opinions.
