I suppose it could change some, but some would change more if they weren't neutered, it all depends on the age in which they are neutered. Joey was neutered around 7 months, so testosterone never got a chance to really be strong in his system, and he's stayed my little boy, the only marking he does is outside when he goes for walks. If we hadn't neutered him, I'm sure he would have changed much more in the next few months, one positive change I did note was that he no longer seemed eager to run out the gate or front door.
In an older dog that already has several years of testosterone pumping through his system, you might see more of a change, the adrenal glands continue to make some testosterone, so he might not change too much, but he will not be as agitated if he smells a bitch in heat. Older dogs that I've had neutered, still seem to enjoy walks and exercise; they just didn't seem as anxious. Some dogs will gain weight, but some of the weight gain may have come with age anyway. It's probably more important to continue to see that a neutered dog gets exercise. |
