Diarrhea is a symptom.
The cause of which, is the destruction by a bioinfectious agent that has changed, or by toxicity, destroyed the natural flora in the intestines. Once the flora is no longer active and functioning the intestines both small and large can no longer digest the nutrient content in the food, or finish the water absorbtion process that forms the normal firm stool that most dogs deficate.
So the first order of priority is to re-establish the flora. Pro-biotics either through a natural food selection such as yogurt, or by adding probiotic powder will concentrate on fixing the cause and not just the symptom.
