Make sure you use a harness, but I would let him run around the house with the leash to get him used to it. To go walking I would take him out for a short walk to the car or mailbox and then back to the house- once he learns that he can go out with the leash he should like it. Try bribing him with treats too! You want to associate good things with the leash- he'll get the hang of it! Good luck!
