at the last general practice i worked at we would do a small inhouse blood panel before surgery on a lot, but not all patients before surgery. On dogs over 8 we did a larger in house blood panel and an EKG. At at emergency/referral hospital we would do a full CBC/Chem in house on all patients, a chest rad (cancer check) on dogs 7 and older, and an EKG on the ones that needed it (depended on other health problems as well as age). so the pre-op testing would be different per case and situation which would explain the price increase. every dog doesn't get the same testing especially in a general practice where the patients are mostly healthy.
