Whole thing sounds like both of you really were a bit lacking in education of the rule of the stud owner.
My dogs aren't for public stud....however, my breeder retains breeding rights....and I've used her studs a couple of times....When the last breeding is completed....the owner of the stud signs and hand over a litter registration.....pretty much the way it's done....But, then breeding should be done with someone you trust.
