Most likely they are feeding him in the morning and leaving him before he can relieve himself. How many hours is he being left in the crate? If he is being left all day then maybe they could consider getting a x-pen so he can have a little more room. Also the type of food they are feeding could make a difference too. Cheap dog foods that have lots of grain tend to make dogs go more often.
