I would guess that the average year I spend less than $1000 on vet care for my pups. (I have 3 of them-including one Search and Rescue Dog) when you consider vaccinations, teeth cleaning, incidental accidents/illnesses. It remains pretty consistantly less than $1000 a year (as long as we don't have a neuter or spay, which usually aren't covered by insurance anyway)
So...for me, I have looked, it would be around $120 a month.
$120 x 12 = $1,440 which is way over what I pay in a normal year....so....if I take that same amount and put it in a savings account that accrues interest, after 3 or 4 years I will have about $5,000 in the account. Even after I take the few hundred out every year....I would STILL have a fund for payment of an emergency issue and if I never have an issue, well, I have the funds to buy another puppy or toys or whatever. I do not see how it makes sense to pay another company to essentially do your saving for you, then not give you access to it if you don't use it.
But that is just me...If we had a multi-thousand dollar incident, I could work out payment with out vet based on years of a personal relationship with an independent practice, not a commercially based one, so, I feel confident my savings will be the better option in the long run. | I have PetPlan and yes it may be expensive now.. but it will pay off later god forbid if he has an accident or develops anythings really bad. I like the savings idea plan but honestly, once my bills are paid and i get groceries and other things, its like I dont even remember to put the money away in a savings. I would never save money that way, its great in theroy but I know I wouldnt follow thru with it.
